Janet MacPhee

I only joined the CWL in 1990 at St. Peter’s in Calgary even through my mother has been a member forever. I was raised Catholic in a  farming community 33 kilometers north of Vermilion, Alberta. I moved to Calgary in 1976, after high school to attend SAIT, where I received a diploma in surveying and mapping technology and met my husband, Stephen. After SAIT, we continued our education by going to the University of Calgary and obtaining Bachelor of Science degrees in Geomatics Engineering. I am a professional engineer by schooling but am currently non-practising.

I have held the following positions: president elect, president (1998-2002), past president (2002-2004), community life chair (2003 to 2005). From 1994 to 1998 I was the CWL representative on the board for Discovery House (Family Violence Prevention Society).

We moved from suburbia to the downtown area and I joined the CWL at Sacred Heart where I help co-president. I was first elected to the Calgary CWL Diocesan Council in 2003, community life chair, served one term (2003-2005), nominated again to the Calgary CWL Diocesan Council in 2007 but did not get elected. Later in October of 2007 was asked by Judy Look to come onto the council as the Legislation chair. I then was asked in the spring of 2008 to be the sub-chair for Education with Health and Education. For the 2009-2011 term, I was once again nominated and accepted the Health and Education Chair.

I was once again nominated for the 2011-2013 term where I am the vice-president and the Communications Chair.

I have been married for over 30 years with one son and daughter-in-law.

I also sit on the board for the Eau Claire Community Association where I am currently the newsletter editor, article writer and publisher for the Eau Claire Community newsletter.
